Female Cosmetic Genital Surgery (FCGS)

The term of Female Cosmetic Genital Surgery includes all gynaecological operations related to labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, and vagina. While some patients ask these operations because of aesthetic care, the others ask for them for medical reasons. Development of surgery and anesthesia technics and faster widespring of the knowledge related to possibility and success of the FCGS increases the interest on this scientific area. Today, it is possible to make these operations in daily clinical practise and under sedation and local anesthesia.

Patients usually ask FCGS for medical or aesthetic reasons. Medical reasons for asking FCGS usually include loss of normal vaginal and perineal anatomical structure because of vaginally delivery, difficult delivery, trauma, menopause etc. In this group, patient usually complain painful sexually intercourse (disparaneu), stress urinary incontinence, difficulty at the time of defecation, vaginally dryness etc. Aesthetic reasons usually include big labia minora, majora and clitoris, asymmetry of the labia minora, relaxed external genitalia, not enjoying at the time of sexually intercourse, enlarged vagina, and sometimes noising with movement or at the time of sexually intercourse. Many times, it is not possible to discriminate the concerns of FCGS and an overlapping is seen.

Labiaplasty, vaginoplasty, and cliteroplasty are the most common procedures that have been done in FCGS discipline.

Labiaplasty:

It may include both labia major and also labia minor aesthetic surgery. Labia minor surgery the most common type of labiaplasty. Asymmetry of the labia minus, widening, relaxing and enlargement of the labia minora are usually the cause of asking labiaplasty. There are a lot of determined and performing labiaplasty technic. The unchanged aim of these operations is vaginal tightening (reducing the vaginal calibre) together with regeneration of vaginal mucosa.

Perineoplasty usually includes a labiaplasty together with vaginoplasty and pelvic floor repair surgery.

Is there any risk or complication of gynaecological aesthetic surgery?

As seen in all surgical procedures FCGS also have a small percentage of risk related to surgery and anaesthesia. Allergic reactions to the used medicines, surgical area infections are rarely seen complications of the FCGS. Transient disparaneu may rarely be seen if vaginal tightening is performed very excessive and comes to normal. If the surgeon or surgery team have sufficient theoretical knowledge, plan to do the correct operation and perform it successfully the complication rate is very low and patients usually come to normal daily work after the next day of the surgery. Full healing of the surgery incisions and starting of the sexullay activity usually take 3-4 weeks.
